Americans for Libraries Council (ALC) is a national nonprofit that advocates for libraries at the national level and develops and promotes programs aimed at realizing the potential of libraries in the 21st century. The Council is the parent organization of Libraries for the Future, a leader in library development for more than a decade.

The IPL was founded by a class at the University of Michigan’s School of Information, and Michigan SI students almost exclusively generated its content and managed the Ask a Question reference service.
